Serious Game to Help People with Depression

The Pervasive Technology Lab (CIC) has been awarded funding in association with a leading
mental health charity 'Mind' to produce a Serious Game to help people with depression. Computer
Games are increasingly being used for serious purposes, for example, teaching business skills
(PIXELearning, TPLD) or even 'Patient Recovery' TruSim. The intention is to facilitate learning in a
'fun' way. This informal approach to teaching people can save money in training costs and
provides a visually appealing way to take on board information. The computer games
market is said to be worth $10.5 billion annually and the age at which
people are playing is increasing. The potential in the use of games to support advice given on
a subject is great.
