The Pervasive Technology Lab are pursuing a number of avenues of research, among them include the following: *Locational Aware Systems - Global Positioning Systems (GPS) have been used in past research to provide geographical information to the the visually impaired. GPS can also be used to provide information to other users to who require the specific whereabout of services. *Many mobile phones currently provide this facility which can be used to help people who are unaware of the phyical location of needed services. *Three dimensional environments - Second Life can provide opportunities to socially network with people in a new and interesting way. Providing a means to meet other sufferers as well as explore othe interests. *Artifical Intelligence (AI) - Advice provided to sufferers of a particular condition can benefit from an accurate diagnosis of their symptoms. The use of AI heuristics can provide an optimised response to the examination of a particular medical problem.
